Katarzyna Krakowiak, Oh No, Please Don’t, 2016
Conceived as the first leg of a sprint relay, this multi-part, site-specific sound work was grounded in the rhythm and text of printing process at the heart of The House of Dust. Beginning with the synthesized voice saying, "Oh no, please don't," the composition permeated the gallery and falled onto 5th Avenue like paper from Poem Drop (1971), which greeted the viewer upon entrance to the exhibition. In this work, the words from Knowles’s poem were transformed both through interaction with technology (via techniques of modulation) and materialization in space.
