The House of Dust by Alison Knowles
INHABITED BY PEOPLE WHO LOVE TO READ

*Srdjan Jovanovic Weiss, Invisible City (Archive), 2016*

This installation of 27 archival boxes suspended from the ceiling was imagined as a fragment of a system extending beyond the gallery. With its triple cross hair geometry resembling the axes for Alison Knowles’s organization for actions around the built structures of The House of Dust as well as the cut of Broadway through Manhattan’s grid. Other inspirations for the installation included works by authors such as Italo Calvino and Albert Camus, as well as a range of architects from Mark Wigley to Constant to the Russian Perestroika architects involved in the Paper Architecture movement.
