ART BY TRANSLATION

One-week research and creation seminar with the Art by Translation fellows

Université Rennes 2
October 7-12, 2019

This seminar was dedicated to exploring the issues raised by a multi-stage work by American artist Silvia Kolbwoski entitled Enlarged from the Catalog: Michael Asher (1990) and later Missing Asher (2017) which served as a discursive touchstone for the development of the exhibition The Intolerable Straight Line that is to take place at the Galerie Art&Essai in Rennes from November 15, 2019 to January 16, 2020.

Each day was dedicated to a particular issue related to the unpredictable trajectories of artworks: the dissemination of artworks through publications and discourse; the appropriation of other artists’ works, transformation through entropy; trajectories of care; historicization and translation in time; trajectories of sound works.

Lectures by Séverine Cauchy, Maud Jacquin, Sven Lütticken, Sébastien Pluot and Anne Zeitz.

With the Art by Translation Fellows, and MFA students from Université Rennes 2, ESAD TALM Angers and ENSA Paris-Cergy.
