INHABITED BY THOSE WHO INVITE OTHERS

“Houses in prosperous societies are collections of pieces. Often these pieces are compressed into a massive body, forming a house. In certain civilizations, in Asia and Africa, each piece becomes an individual house.” Defender of disciplined anarchy and realist utopias, Yona Friedman situates his work outside of disciplinary boundaries. He develops research which is applied to ways of inhabiting the Earth. Paradoxal in their simplicity, the concepts materialized in the exhibition, the “spatial city”, “mobile architectures” and “Meubles + Plus”, do not describe societal models but processes of self-decision. Far from any ideology, Yona Friedman experiments with contexts: the right to understand and interpret things according to one’s own existence. The Meubles+Plus, the furniture, tables, beds, chairs and couches, etc. which are treated as “mini”houses” are developed for the exhibition by the artist-architect and by the visitors.
